This project explores the death penalty—an issue that is historically significant, morally complex, and emotionally heavy. I began with a question: How can we present such a disturbing topic without resorting to fear or horror?
The book traces the evolution of capital punishment while highlighting the growing relevance of human rights. To provoke critical thinking, I employed visual irony: illustrations of torture and execution rendered in a cute, childlike style. This unsettling contrast is designed to disarm the reader at first glance, then gradually evoke discomfort and reflection.
Rather than taking a didactic stance, the work invites readers to sit with their own mixed feelings. Even criticism—such as perceiving the tone as cynical—serves a purpose: it keeps the conversation open, challenging the viewer to confront the tension between aesthetics, ethics, and emotional response.
